Most adorable little thing.

Hubs is cracking on with the frame for the coop/chicken tractor, although I had to rein in the amount of metal he was using – even with wheels – it would become too heavy for me at the rate the frame was developing… he was a bit narked about that, (he wants more citting/welding) so I left him to it.

The old coop will be moved, and reserved for any roosters that appear, once the hens reach laying age – 4 months.

It needs a bit of TLC, so the new one arrived in good time.

Just rehydrating now, before doing the rest of todays jobs.

They are forecasting low 100s next week – so it’ll be earlier starts, and I may bring the hen and chicks into the garage – we will see how they do – it’s supposed to get to 95 today.

On the AZ ballot shortfall – remember that fire at the chicken farm, owned by the election committee chairman? I would hazard to guess he is also a Democrat…

Related to this…Hubs was reviewing the School Board agenda for Monday, last night.

The new HS Principal has been selected, he was one of the Vice Principals. This is the right decision.

Great progress from the Board.

However, there are two Directors, and the District Admin who need to step up and do THEIR jobs – instead of sticking their fingers in other folks pies. So, still work to do on that front.

With a new Superintendant, a new Principal, and a motivated conservative School Board, hoping this coming school year will sort all that out.

One of the things I disliked when hubs started at this school, was the fact that there was NO defined employee handbook… that is also now being addressed.

Transparency, clear communication, and defined expectations – go a long way to creating a good working environment, because evils operatives find it very hard to hide in an environment like this.

On the chick front, I just read that the egg incubation period starts 24 hours AFTER the hen starts to sit, and that the Black Copper Maran eggs may take up to 23 days (not the usual 21) to hatch, as they are larger eggs, with thick shells… so we still have a couple of days.

I also read that anything from 55 – 65% is considered a normal hatch rate, I am hoping for 5 – 6 hens, and, one cockrell (I would like to breed my Australorp and Black Sex Link, which are great egg layers, and big enough to be good meat birds too.) But, I may end up with 5 cockrells, and one hen! Thats ok, we can rehome them, or, turn them into dinner…

So, I will be checking in regularly on the broody today.
