yes we have all heard this before and i hesitate to share this first one….as i shared today on social media – this “hurry up and wait” experience is now feeling like the boy who cried wolf.  you hear “wolf wolf wolf!” so many times – without a dang wolf appearing – that when the wolf appears – the crowd has left…

Today’s Experience ~ 2/9/2020

 

i had a dream last night where i was in a former neighborhood of mine from childhood/teen years.  i was visiting individual homes of people i knew at the time.  quick pop-in visits before i walked out.  i then saw a family from my current experience and saw them driving away from me.

i let that go too.

and on i continued….walking up a hill feeling quite weary – heading towards the home in which i lived in at the time.  it felt metaphoric as i knew i wasn’t actually going to this home.

just when i was thinking i couldn’t go on a figure appeared – dark at first – until a street light shined upon them.  i paused – observed – and realized it was Rocky Balboa.  i approached him – he spoke to me the way Rocky would – brooklyn accent.  he encouraged me to carry on – and as he did – we did this swirling/twirling dance and upon doing that – he energetically “pushed” me uphill – giving me a boost of energy.

i woke up thinking “Rocky Balboa?!  what was that about” – kind of laughing it off.

until i saw this – first thing on my facebook feed this morning – a picture that accompanied a discussion about how we are about ready to all Go Home…

Jackson Lee will no longer serve as leader of one of the House Judiciary Committee’s key subcommittees or as head of the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation, the fundraising arm of the Congressional Black Caucus.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler, D-N.Y., said it was Jackson Lee’s decision to step aside as chairwoman of the House Judiciary Crime Subcommittee.

A Reflection on Life after Life

 

driving home today, i was enjoying the solitude of my car.  i had dropped off our child at her activity.  the sun was shining in between rain showers – a song from my past playing on the radio.  the words spoke of enjoying watching the puddles gather rain (fans of 90’s music will probably know that one).  a favorite of mine.  smiling, i glanced over at a large sign advertising “ESTATE SALE”.  i saw it was a local organizing company putting it on – the same company who had recently cleaned out our adopted grandpa’s home in recent days.

i haven’t spoken of that yet.  what is there to say?  the house is empty – in every way imaginable now.

so seeing this sign removed the smile from my face as i reflected on the rather pathetic way in which our lives can be seen at times after we have left these bodies:  stuffed into boxes and at times, placed on display at Estate Sales.

it just felt wrong.  my mood grew somber.

and then something happened.

i thought of it a different way – much the way “the grinch” does in that holiday cartoon.

i could see the humor of all of our “stuff” we gather – being passed on to someone else.  i could hear our grandpa laugh.  his legacy – sitting at some damn estate sale.  he would definitely see the humor in that.

and i did too.

so i laughed – tears in my eyes.  kind of one of those most beautiful moments – the most powerful of emotional states.  missing him as i do, i could feel the laughter in the moment of reflection.  and i could feel how temporary this all is.  and how absolutely ridiculously silly it is as well in the end.

we come and go.  meet and greet – reconnect – only to move on to another experience.

only in this “now” moment – we do so FREELY.  forever more.

An 18-year-old girl is diagnosed with Anorexia because of her underweight body image. She pleads to remove the diagnosis as this has resulted in years of bullying throughout her schooling. In doing so, she is labeled as defiant and gets a new diagnosis on her chart, “Oppositional Defiant Disorder.”

Following more refusal from any adult professional to hear her case, she retaliates to some persistent bullying and she is told she had a “psychotic break.” The psychiatrist that barely remembers her name writes a new script for Seroquel to control her “psychosis.” This medication makes her drowsy and she cannot function, though the staff member (who is only three years her senior) tells her she needs to wait it out and she can not refuse medication.

So she sleeps past noon, misses breakfast and lunch with the group, and asks if she can have something to eat. She is told, “No, that is just natural consequences.”

Diagnosed with anorexia and then refused a meal? Is this legal? More importantly, is this ethical?
