Now here’s the part that cuts both ways….
If you’ve been ghosted.. their silence was never a reflection of your worth. It was a reflection of their capacity.

It was several years ago when Lisa Harrison brought up the song ” Africa ” by Toto. Does anyone remember that? She and others (myself included) felt it was a reference to Home. It was one of those things that seemed to disappear, perhaps not for all, certainly not for me. Hearing those “home” songs on the radio is a bit painful at times today, and usually, I will turn them off if I hear them play.
Last night, while scrolling through X, I saw a young man play “Africa” on the piano – literally using the entire instrument to create an amazing performance. I share it below. Something nudged me: This is one song I do not know how to play. I felt I had to come “full circle,” and it was time to learn it.
So I searched on Google, hoping to find some free sheet music, at the very least with the basic notes, which can be difficult. Not only did I find free sheet music for the song, but I found the full song – original composition, which included the solo. It was a sign. I knew it.
So I spent about 30 minutes last night going through it, got the basic key down, the basic melody, and tonight sat down and really hammered it away, playing it repeatedly for about an hour. Except for the solo, I have it pretty much mastered. I am not one to sit and read sheet music for very long. I am incredibly impatient in this regard. When the urge to learn a new song hits, I want to play the whole thing NOW. When I sit down to learn a new song, I usually just breeze through the sheet music to get the “gist” of it, then take it from there. Sometimes it clicks, sometimes it doesn’t.
Tonight, sitting at my piano playing Africa, the song many associate with Home, clicked.
Maybe playing it will help guide us all Homeward. Wherever that is.

My mind is like a squirrel. So at times, my life is such that it’s taken me 5 minutes just to type this up. Daughter loudly informs me, “Eeewww, there’s an ant on the wall!!!”.
