It began with sad news. Someone I went to school with – from 2nd grade on up to high school graduation – passed on over yesterday. I knew he had been sick – battling pancreatic cancer. I had reconnected with him on social media many years ago and the past year he has shared his battle with this horrid disease pretty publicly. I recently had a private convo with him about alternative treatments as he was willing to try anything at that point. Anyway yesterday I kept thinking about him. Late last night I checked his social media page and saw nothing but I just had this hunch. This morning I learned he had passed yesterday.
So after all of the emotions that come up when you learn someone from your childhood has passed – and I felt them and all that – shared convos with others from my school days online – I began to have this sense of a party on the other side. Perhaps once we exit this place we truly ARE free of the endless reincarnation trap.
Headed out to the park later with my girl, 80’s songs (my generation) were all over the radio stations. Hmmm, I thought.
Later in the day, I went to the garage as dinner cooked to release some pent up energy – even some pain and sadness over hearing the news today (and all that it brought up). As I turn on the radio and get my punching bag lined up, 80’s song began to play – like back to back. I remembered reading that he had hosted parties during his younger years – being in charge of the music. And given he was an 80’s teen too – well I wondered – is he sending out some messages to us already? Is some party going on?
Then after dinner I felt called to play some piano music kind of in his honor. I do that when people I know pass. Anyway, just as I finished up playing, I sat at the bench looking at the setting sun and reflected. It was that moment my mate comes in and says I had to get out to the garage and listen to the 80’s songs playing. He suddenly felt drawn to go to a certain radio station. I was missing the party in the garage. lol
So I go out there and walk in to Wang Chung – Everybody Have Fun Tonight – so I began dancing by myself. Up next? Beastie Boys – You Gotta Fight For Your Right To Party. I run back in the house – get my mate – tell him what’s playing – so he comes out with me and we proceed to dance like we were kids again. He then goes back inside the house as wrestling was on. As he leaves, I hear the radio play this former radio DJ from my hometown – Tony Marena who was popular during my high school years – and he’s talking – and asks What year did Michael Jackson’s hair catch fire shooting that Pepsi commercial? 1984 – the year my friend and I graduated. !! More music from 1984 comes on. Cindy Lauper. Madonna and so many other sell outs – lol – but hey the music was hopping and I was dancing. As one song ended, there is a voice that says we are listening to THROW BACK NATION Radio. Cool.
I go inside to check on my family – tell them what I had just heard. My mate says NO WAY!
Uh, YES WAY, I said laughing.
He proceeds to tell me WWE (Wrestling) is doing THROW BACK Friday Night.
O M G.
It’s almost like my friend is already over on the other side – hosting a party – in charge of the music – saying GET READY.
And if that isn’t enough – Wrestling then announces that we are now in THROW BACK WEEK which continues on Sunday with NASCAR 400. NASCAR racing on Mother’s Day? They have never done that. N E V E R.

Taking it as it is – but I do know there is something far bigger than this horror show we are being shown. MUCH bigger. Freedom. Love. Connection. And some amazing (dance) parties. There is nothing that will stop it from growing and embracing every one of us.
Just thought I would share this fun, cosmic experience.
