Reflecting (a link)

Today it’s hard for me to care about what’s going on out there on the world stage.  And it’s harder feeling like I am carrying this load by myself.  Getting harder friends.

  1. I met the VP of ‘Comic Relief'(the org that raised money for homelessness throughout the US) about 1987. Dennis Albaugh was an extraordinary man and lifelong activist. He became a mentor of sorts. Since I had moved to California in in the summer of 1986 I was working with a non profit group(a very small 501(c)3) in order to promote literacy and the arts. I ended up doing this for 10 years. Time flies. Anyhow, meeting Dennis and hearing of his day-to-day life as a fundraiser(which I had taken on-with no prior experience) was an epiphany for the ears. I had assumed that having famous comedians like Robin Williams and Whoopi and Billy Crystal meant that corporate sponsors just fell in line with a single phone call. That was not the case however, and I came to understand how materialistic the H’wood rank and file were, and it was not a pretty picture. The corporatization of the world has radically undermined the status of the “individual”, and as a result we have been downgraded as ‘data-chattel’ during the Silicon Valley putsch(which really ramped up during the late 80’s). Rugged Individualism- in and of itself- is not the problem in my sense of the human psyche-sphere; however, the new age ‘I-Me-Mine’ focus has resulted in a form of narcissism that has infected every level of our society. Where I live(on the east coast today) there are kids stealing cars for kicks, and the numbers of mob robberies(with teenage gangs) in local store chains has resulted in the closings of multiple stores-to include Wal Mart. [I actually boycott Mall Wart-for political reasons–and Amazon as well. It’s a consumer form of activism.] I appreciate your candor, V…and at this stage during all of the end times scenarios, we are going to need support and to engage in team work with other like-minded souls. I like Jeffrey Prather’s efforts to create Team America. Many of us cannot afford some of the survival tools that we’d like…but over time, if we can learn to embrace Christ-consciousness in real time, we just might beat the curse of A.I. and the techno-feudal anti-humanists altogether. pax

      1. Re Comic Relief…seems like ages ago now. And homelessness is still an issue that’s unresolved. And literacy is still an issue as well. We have to beat this devil in our realm.
