You may have thought Lindsay Clancy was on trial. Being human was on trial. Shame on everyone who failed to see a mother who spiraled into the depths of mental illness, who sought help, and who was failed by the people who were supposed to care the most.
What really gets me about this case is that it is a fight against a system attacking every sacred part of life, including motherhood.
Lindsay’s decline started with something most of you cannot relate to because you sold out a long time ago. It started with a mother being told to do the most obscene thing imaginable for anyone who can produce life: put your baby away from you, listen to him cry, and force yourself to walk away. In her words, “I want to die.” In nature, only an animal that has already abandoned its offspring does that. People say it will be okay. It is not always true.
I have seen some of the darkest things that happen in life, things that would break most people’s brains. My work has put me in rooms, in situations, and in front of people and systems that most never have to look at directly. I have carried weight that would crush a lesser person, and I have kept walking.
As a father, what would break me is doing anything that goes against nature and would harm my children. And the system tries its best to get me to do that every day.
What should be on trial are the inhuman actions we are told to accept in the name of science and progress, including nonsensical practices invented by experts like safe sleeping and sleep training, COVID vaccines, and the psychiatric medication that damaged Lindsay.
Today I ran into my neighbor who had just come back from checking out a daycare for her unborn child, her first, because she will have to go back to work shortly after that baby is born. Who decided this was the way?
Instead, most of you want her to be the villain so you can pretend none of this could ever happen to you or the people you love. When Being Human is on trial, and humans keep failing the test, they get replaced. That is the plan. That verdict is already written.

i used to work in daycare.
i remember one late afternoon, a mother came in with her newborn. maybe 4 weeks old.
she was desperate to find someone to take care of her baby as she just “couldn’t handle staying home with him.”
my heart broke for that baby.
and the mother.
i remember thinking how unnatural that was.
and wondered what had happened to push her into that mindset.
yes – it’s a tough job. (I’ve done it – my daughter is now a teenager).
you get thrown into it.
my situation was far from ideal.
and by the grace of the Divine along with my lifelong adoration of babies (I oozed maternal energy from the time I could walk), I absolutely loved those early years the best and was delightfully happy in videos and pictures, as was my girl.
far too many mothers don’t have the support they need.
even if they HAVE support in the eyes of others – if mom says it isn’t enough – we need to listen.
we all have different capacities.
this broken ugly system gives lip service to the “importance of motherhood”.
it’s just that: lip service.
thank you for this post. there is nothing black and white about this case. it’s filled with layers.
layers that need to be examined and seen for what they are: an attack on every one of us who is human.
by a system that needs to be brought to its f’ing knees.
