Then there’s this little obscure song from 1983 that was never really a favorite, but for some reason it popped into my mind last night, was there this morning. The Politics of Dancing. In behavioral psychology, an extinction burst is what happens when a reinforced behavior stops being rewarded. Before the behavior disappears, it intensifies. The system throws everything it has at reestablishing the old pattern โ one last surge of energy to test whether the boundary will hold.
Your operating system does the same thing.
When you reprogram your identity โ when you declare new Operating Parameters and begin running new code โ the subconscious does not switch quietly.
It was running the old code for years.
Decades.
It built neural pathways. It stored the somatic signature in your fascia. It wired your RAS to filter for evidence that supports the old identity.
And now you’re telling it to stop.
